Surrounding countryside. Seasonal Events. Community spirit, which is improving. Low crime levels. I would like to see more quality shops on the shopping centre and restaurants making the centre a focal point in the town,a venue for theatrical/artistic events. John
Love the friendly people, and the weird and wonderful activities you can find when you scratch Yates surface a little. Love the Ridgewood and the Heritage Centre events, love the new library. Love the Kingsgate Park playground. Love the bat/owl prowls. An independent cinema would be wonderful. More creative classes for adults at the Heritage Centre. More sense of the area's history. A local veggie box scheme. More local/street specific events to help neighbours meet and strengthen and improve relationships. Another Diwali celebration in the Ridgewoods. Street entertainers in Yate Shopping Centre. Jane
Having lived here for 42 years, I have always enjoyed the considerable number of amenities locally available. The council do a very good job on the whole and the activities for retired people are excellent. The main fly in the ointmentis the dearth of a decent range of shops in the shopping centre; there were a much better mix in times past. Michael
I love the free parking, as I drive in from a village to shop, but I dislike intensely the poor mix of shops. Too many mobile phone shops, and card shops, and apart from Dorothy Perkins, no chain shops that are not at the lower end of the price scale. Yate also needs a good upmarket restaurant, instead of sausage roll type cafes, or, an upmarket cafe. Until Yate moves out of cheap and cheerful style marketing, it will never move upwards and onwards. Sue
Great playgrounds for the children - space to run around, climb and even sledging in the snow! What I would really like to see are allotments specifically for Yate - we have nothing and we need something! R.B.
Love the new library and health centre and looking forward to the youth cafe for my daughters. Kingsgate Park is wonderful. Would like to see a decent newsagents (WH Smith) in the shopping centre and a cinema. Wendy
I am pleased with the way that Yate has progressed with new public amenities such as the library and West Walk Surgery, and the Leisure Centre. I feel that this enhances the Shopping Centre too. So many shops have closed down through the recession which has changed the character of the Shopping Centre, though many have been replaced with larger retail chains, and added to the choice of shopping outlets.
The public parks are well attended and cared for and are wonderful places to go. The Shopping Centre car park is not the easiest place to negotiate, as there are too few places with too many cars searching for them during times like Saturdays and Christmas, Easter and so on, so I am not sure I agree with Tescos' encroachment of building expansion on the shopping car park (if this is true) is what we need at Yate. Apart from that well done Yate! Jackie
The amount of greenery between houses and planting in the shopping centre. The hanging baskets are amazing. Would like to see fewer phone shops, perhaps a book shop instead. No smoking in the shopping centre. A warm pool for hydrotherapy. A theatre would be the ultimate. Somewhere for teenagers to meet. A centre for the over 60s (no knitting please). The way it is coming together after many years of waiting. Would like to see changed the road system around the shopping centre and the Heritage Centre in a more prominent position with larger capacity for exhibitions etc. Would like a proper bookshop, somewhere to buy just a newspaper other than going into Tescos or Morrisons. Public toilets. Police on foot patrol around the streets at all times. Submitted via Library
Would like to see more good quality clothes shops for older people, less clothes shops (cheap). Less phone shops. Barrow stall in the precinct to go. More better quality individual shops. No more card shops. Submitted via Library
What I would like to see is something for the community, like a Sunday afternoon Brass Band from April to end of September, like Bristol, Bath and surrounding towns already have. The square outside the Sports Centre would be the ideal space for it. And a cinema/theatre please. Sylvia
I love Yate, I was born here and all my family/friends are here. I would like to see the urban area of Yate & Sodbury become one entity so that the built up areas of Dodington and Westerleigh are part of a greater Yate Town.
That way the whole urban area will be better served by one council.
I would like to see more jobs and consumer choice created in the town centre from a restaurant/leisure/cinema development and more office jobs created in new business parks on the outskirts.
I would also like to see Yate have its own Higher Education facility.
I love the Yate Community Festival in Kingsgate Pk and would like to see that grow. Mark
