“The Y Factor” - Live, Loud and Local!
7pm, Severnside Hall, Thornbury Leisure Centre

Yate and Thornbury Rotary Clubs present a fantastic evening of live, competitive music – and it is bound to be loud! A total of 6 local groups will battle it out to win – and the audience will get to vote for the act of their choice. The bands are from Yate, Wotton under Edge, Charfield and Bristol, one of which is an all girl set up (The Baronesques).

Entitled “The Y Factor”, this competition is being actively supported by Jack FM, Rise Records, Factory Studios who will form the judging panel, also generously sponsored by Hansons and organised jointly by the Rotary clubs of both Yate and Thornbury.

Prizes for the contestants are impressive. For the outright winner there is a day’s studio time to record a professional CD, as well as a paid slot at the 2012 South Cotswold Beer Festival, which attracts over 2,000 people each year. For the two runners up, there will also be access to a studio for rehearsal sessions, and again, paid slots at the Beer Festival.

One of the organisers of this event, John Black of Yate Rotary Club said, “We wanted to give some of our local talent a break with a professional recording, as well as providing a great night's entertainment for the public. The quality and variety of the entries we have received is amazing. The event will also act as a fundraiser to support our local charity work. If it is a success we would like to make this an annual event”.

Finalists are: Before The Storm, Exiled, Curse You Damn Kids, Out of the Ordinary, The Baronesques, Never Mundane.

The Y comes from the Y in Yate Rotary who have initiated this idea but have joined forces with Thornbury Rotary to stage this event to raise funds for charity needs.
