Winterbourne Medieval Barn
In the community, part of the community, at the heart of the community.
How many medieval barns are there in the greater Bristol area, which are open to the public? There's only one we know of, and it is in Winterbourne. The barn is open every third Saturday of the month between 10am-1pm. So why not come and visit the barn? We will not charge you, it is free. But above all you will be made very welcome.

Saturday 16th June 2012
Medieval Medieval Fayre
11am-5pm, Winterbourne Medieval Barn, Court Farm, Church Lane, Winterbourne BS36 1SE

To all the living in the lands of the chantry and warenship of what is now called Saint Michael the archangel, that what used to be called Saint Mary’s, that of the parish church of Winterbourne Manorial estate, and including the good people of the Greater Bristol area and all other lands surrounding this, even that which is beyond the seas: The Winterbourne Medieval Barn activities Group, along with The Company of Chivalry, requests your attendance to the “Annual Winterbourne Medieval Fayre” and there to make merriment.

Yet again we are fortunate enough to be entertained by “The Company of Chivalry”, who re-enact the time of the then King Edward 3rd, and one of his sons, John of Gaunt, of which Lord Thomas Hungerford was a vassal.

It is hoped that my Lord and Lady de Bradeston will be able to attend the Medieval Fayre this year, if he is not away business. Please take your time to look around their encampment, how they get prepared for battle, what style of arms they use, swords, bill hooks, daggers, mace, their armour, and what type of food the ladies are cooking.

The Company of Chivalry put a lot of time and effort into their costumes. They will be turning the clock back in time; you will see, hear, touch and smell the fourteenth century. You may be lucky enough to hear live cannon fire! with a call from the master gunner of “have a care”.

All this takes place in the grounds of Court Farm Medieval Barn, church lane, which was built in 1342, Commissioned by Lord Thomas de Bradeston. It is a secular barn - therefore a building of great national importance! It is a grade 2*listed building.
