Free Saturday matinees at Yate’s Armadillo cinema

Families and under-12s in Yate are being invited to join an innovative new film club based at the town’s pioneering Armadillo Youth Venue and Café.

The club shows a different film every Saturday at 10:30am to encourage children and families to try its high-specification new cinema.

The free film club also operates on Thursday evenings at 7pm for young people aged 11-18.

To join the free film club and receive details of up-and-coming films please contact the Armadillo on 01454 869 441 or email .

Named by local young people in recognition of its distinctive shape, and painted a vivid purple colour, the 200-capacity Armadillo social space offers high-quality facilities including an internet café, DJ and band area and fully-featured cinema.

As well as fostering a spirit of enterprise among those involved in its operation, the cafe provides a safe and stimulating environment for local young people to socialise.

The centre is mostly funded by Yate Town Council and South Gloucestershire Council. However, a wide range of organisations have also given time, money and resources to support and develop the Armadillo. If you would like to be involved please contact us on the details above.

Calling all film enthusiasts

The dream of creating a small cinema in Yate has now become a reality.

The upstairs room at the new Armadillo Youth Venue and Café has been equipped with a large screen, excellent sound equipment and has the equipment and projection to show films (DVD or Blu-ray).

There is tiered seating, with comfortable chairs to seat 60, and a range of confectionery on sale from 20p, with drinks from 50p.

Other ideas being planned for the cinema include:

  • a midweek lunch and film aimed at adults
  • a midweek carer and pre-school child film with a healthy lunch included!
  • a weekly recently released film with a 12 or 15 certificate to attract young people
  • letting the facility as a lecture theatre

The Armadillo is currently recruiting local film enthusiasts to help young people run some of the facilities.

CAN YOU HELP - by providing advice or volunteer support in the areas of film programming, attracting an audience or stewarding?

DO YOU WANT TO use the cinema or have some ideas you would like to tell us about?

If so, please ring Margaret Lamb on 07768 557014 or email .

Everybody (whatever your age) is welcome to be included in this exciting venture.
